Wet Rot Treatment in Thanet and Canterbury
Wet rot is a fungal decay that affects timber with a persistently high moisture content.
It is often found around leaking roofs, defective windows, plumbing leaks, damp walls and poorly ventilated floors. Unlike dry rot, wet rot normally remains close to the source of moisture.
Damp Property Protection provides professional wet rot inspections and treatment throughout Thanet and Canterbury.

Correct Diagnosis
Different forms of fungal decay can produce similar symptoms. It is therefore important to establish whether the problem is wet rot, dry rot or another form of deterioration.
Our technicians assess the appearance of the timber, the moisture level and the condition of the surrounding structure.
We also identify the defect that has allowed the timber to remain damp.
Signs of Wet Rot
Affected timber may appear:
Darker than surrounding wood
Soft or spongy
Cracked or distorted
Brittle when dry
Covered in fungal growth
Structurally weakened
Paint may also flake from damp timber, and the surrounding area may have a musty smell.
Wet rot can affect window frames, floorboards, joists, roof timbers and other wooden components.
Wet Rot Treatment and Repair
The first priority is to stop the source of moisture.
This could involve repairing a leak, improving ventilation or resolving penetrating damp. Once the area can dry, decayed sections are assessed to determine whether they can be repaired or need replacing.
Preservative treatment may be applied to surrounding timber where appropriate.
New timber should not be installed into an area that remains damp, as decay may return.
